Compressing column width in JTable increases row height

When I compress the column width in my JTable the row height increases to accommodate the text being moved to the lower lines in a multi-line TableCellRenderer. If the column width is adjusted back, the row height never collapses back. Is there a way to have the row height decrease as the column width expands and the text moves back up on the above lines?

You can use html tag in the content of table cell but I dont know if it helps.
"<html>line1<br>line2</html>
