Compressed jfs in AIX 5.1

We have migrated from AIX 4.3.3 to 5.1 and those filesystems that were compressed in 4.3.3 seem not to have the same rate of compression in 5.1., we had to extend those fs. Is that normal? I read that the new jfs2 can't be compressed but it says nothing about jfs.
