compress a PDF in batch/ reduce size

I have a report dynamically generated in a java application from ltx to dvi and from dvi to pdf.
Is there a way to reduce the size of the end document in the java application itself.

if it is not compressed, try itext, you can easily develop a program to do the job for you.
