To start I am a newbie... I have a windows 2000 domain and the users are starting to run out of room to save stuff on. The place I work for cannot afford new drives. I have a server running RH9 with samba 3.0.4. I have it set up to authenticate my MS users via the win2k server and create a directory for them in /home. I am wondering if it is possible to create that new folder for them and then virtually link that folder with their folder on the MS server thus making more room?

Or maybe just ask the users to clear out their junk ?
Or archive off old files ?

You could do a single-event "migration" by

1) creating a subfolder of the Win box' home share to add the ../archived folder.
2) map share/archived to /home/~user on samba
3) move all Win box share files to /share/archived

That's one way to free up all of the home share space on Win... You could probably just move all of the Win to samba and just make sure that the samba drive was plenty large.
