I am setting up Windows Small Business Server 2003 Std. I got everything up and running but was having trouble with the system not seeing the other computers on the network. I determined that this was probably because it was acting as a domain controller and we really just wanted a workgroup. So I uninstalled active directory. Big mistake. I did not realize that the EULA of SBS 2003 Std. requires that it be configured as a domain controller. Even worse, when not configured as a domain controller it automatically shuts itself down every 1-2 hours. Needless to say this is not acceptable. So I re-installed active directory planning to go ahead and setup the entire workgroup as a domain. Unfortunately, now my "Server Management" console refuses to start. When I click on the icon it just doesn't do anything. When I try to browse to the directory that is supposed to hold the executable I am told that I do not have permission. I am using a domain administrator account so I do not see how that is possible. Anyway, I tried re-installing the Server Tools from Add/Remove programs, but it fails every time. I tried uninstalling them and it just fails then too. Anybody got any ideas?

So there is not a reasonably easy way to fix this? It would be nice to not have to re-do the whole thing...

Doesn't sound like it. Do as Pat says and re-install and follow the wizards, always follow the wizards when using SBS.

You might want to check these sites out for more info on SBS efore you re-install so you get a better idea for what SBS is all about;

In case you still don't believe it...

Start over and follow the wizards!

Also I would suggest that you use the SBS forum to get exposure to the SBS community.
