Hello All,

I'm pretty new to PC'S, little under 10mths. Never used a Database, Excel or even Word that much. Have some experience with Dreamweaver4 and just getting into UltraDev4 and learning .asp pages etc...ouch. Have been involved in making a site here in Japan, in Japanese mainly and on it, , are some basic order forms. Hence my determination to now learn about databasing. Where to start though.? Have Access2000 here on my English Win2kPro, default set to Japanese, machine and also have IIS(PWS) running. Our site is on a server in America, low cost one though, 200 a year I think. Believe it has a MySQL Database in/on it. I think I'd like to play around with the pages from my side and just run them locally first, but, honestly, don't have a clue where to begin. I mean, what would I use a database for..? Can anyone steer me in the right direction, or, if I'm in the wrong street/game, tell me directly where to go..<grin>..TIA. Cheers all.

P.S. Another person in our group is currently playing around with a software called CodeCharge, he's a lot smarter. Anyone got anything to say about it..?

If your host has MySql they should be able to help you connect to the MySql Server but I doubt if the will help you write a database. What you need to learn (if your site host has MySql) is SQL which is not to hard here is a link to an SQL interactive online tutorial it is good and you see the results there. It also has a lot of other useful links and learning tools. MySql is Free to download and use and here is a site that makes MySql a little easier to use, but note you must read the MySql documentation it is a must on set up for os's and bugs.
Note If sql is not the way you are intending on going I apologize for wasting your time

ToeShot,

you have not wasted my time at all. I appreciate you taking the time to post this info. Will get into it right away. Thanx again. Cheers all.

P.S. Any knowledge on CodeCharge..?

Sorry Never heard of it.
But then agian there is a lot of software out the I have never heard of.

Codecharge is really a good tool for developing database-driven websites. But anyway you have to know at least SQL to use it, because it has no tool for data modelling.

And that can be the worst part of them all >:)
