Red Hat 7.3

Is it possible to view the options that are built into an existing kernel, if the .config file doesn't exist in the kernel source tree? I'd like to take the stock kernel that is built with RHL73, and only modify one or two options. If you go into /usr/src/linux-x.x.x, and run "make menuconfig", it starts with a default kernel. I'd like to view the options that are built into the existing kernel, and then modify them. Is this possible?

Thanks a lot in advance.

if you install the red hat kernel source rpm, there will be a directory called configs in the top level. These are the default configs for RH's kernels. Just choose whichever category your box would fit into.

Cool, I didn't know that either jay:)

Do you know if its possible to view the options that are built into a running kernel if the source tree doesn't exist? If I handed you a vmlinuz-x.x.x file, is it possible to see which options are compiled into that particular kernel using "menuconfig"?

On my computer, running RedHat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3, there is a config-2.4.18-3 file in the /boot directory. But I'm guessing that this is just for RedHat's kernel RPMs, I may be wrong though. //Daniel

No, no, I'm asking if I emailed you a vmlinuz-x.x.x file, is there any way that you can view what options are compiled into that specific non-default kernel?
