compiling, processor??

Hi!

I begin to get lost...
I know how to program a processor like a PIC processor with its own language (assembleur in french, maybe assembler in english...)but when I program it with visual C++ for example, what do I have to do to put the soft on the processor??? Do I also have to put windows on it?
Is there any software or something that compile the C++ codes for the processor I want to use for my application??

Sorry for my english and thanks a lot to anybody who can help me! :)
