Hi,

Is it possible to create an MS Access MDE and somehow include a runtime which enables people to run your app without MS Access installed on their machine?

Is there a distributable or something you get as a developer?

Or how do I go about wrting it in VB and compiling into an executable without an IDE such as visual studio?

The free Access RunTime is adequate for MDB and MDE.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Any good resources you know regarding its use and implementaion.

I'll go do some googling, do I need to download it or does it come with MS Office Pro?

I seem to be going in circles trying to work out what i need and how to get it..

that page says I don't need to buy visual studio to package MS Access applications just visual studio tools for MSO, but when I click the link " How to Buy: Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System."

It takes you to a page offering Visual Studio 2008 ?

Thanks, only all this is MS Access 2007, we have Office 2003, don't i need those versions to create standalone apps with MS Access 2003?

Yup just tried to install the developer extention and it wont install as I don't have Office 2007.

Yes, for Access 2003 you need the Visual Studio Developer Tools for Microsoft Office.

As I recently learned in another thread Access 2007 is the first to support the runtime for free.

Also Noteworthy is I don't think Microsoft has sold the Runtime version under the same product name twice. I have only used it on a handful of Occasions but the first time I saw it was the Access Developer's Toolkit (Access 2.0).

Dang, I wonder why, poor uptake on MSO2007 perhaps?

It's not like MS to be so kind [lol]

I think it's called ADE (Access Developer Extension), dunno MS make all ther stuff far too confusing, just like the reshuffle on their certifications this year!

I've just spoken with my MS gold partner, they rung Microsoft and were told the only way you can now wrap up MS Access 2003 applications is with Visual Studio Pro 2008.

Looks like MS Access is out the question.

I've also just read up on the different versions of Studio, and not one of them mentions Office 2003?

And what is this 'Team' studio with tonnes of versions

Anyway, the Boss aint going to fork out £800.00 on an off chance it will work with MSO2003!

Does anyone know the bst place to get a cheap copy of VSTO2005 and confirm it does handle MSO 2003?

As usual finding anything on MS's site is near impossible... I did find an article on how to.

I also found this thread on another site.

The cheap/easy answer may be to buy Office 2007, and distribute the 2007 runtime file with a 2003 file.

I am no longer with the company where I used it, or I could do some more digging. Back in the day I bought it under volume licensing and it cost about half as much as the Office pro volume license.

Yup. Buying MSO 2007 is definately the best option, for me anyhow.

I've got so fed up with MS that i've signed up for a Diploma in Computing and my first course is Java Object Orientation.

which now makes me a student aso I can get MSO 2007 Enterprise for £50.00 under student licence.
