Hello,

i want to compile and Link a Cobol-Program for DB2 as a UDF.

The description of the CREATE FUNCTION in the DB2 Manuels mean, that a UDF as a SUB-Program runs faster than a UDS as Main-Programm.

How can i compile and link a program as a sub-program.
is there anybody how can it explain me?

Kai,
I know what you mean when you refer to a UDF (user defined function) in DB2, but I'm not so sure what you require when you mention UDS. Could you clarify as this is not a term I've come across before.

If you want some general info on what a UDF is Craig Mullins has an excellent paper here:
I assume when you mentioned the DB2 manuals you are referring to the IBM Embedded Programming guide (found here: which goes into the area in detail.

I don't seem to be able to find an example of a UDF called by on an OS/390 but Microfocus have got an example which may be helpful here:
Hope some of this helps.

Marc
