Compiled reports

I am using 8.5 and have the ability to create reports that can be compiled shared with other folks who do not have Crystal reports.

Is this still available with crystal 9.0

Also i have seen some report menus where reports are developed and posted to a menu of sorts. Is that only for compiled reports?

The report compiling and distribution tool is no longer available starting with version 9. The menu you spoke of could be compiled reports, or it could be a VB executable placed on a menu.

Does this mean that each user must have crystal reports installed to get updated reports? Or do some of the tools allow a non-licensed user to see updated reports?

All 3rd-party Crystal Report Viewers (see list at

allow you to run Crystal reports on a PC without a need for a Crystal Reports license.

I'm not hugely surprised that a software vendor is trying to push everyone to a more expensive option: most of them do it, wherever they can.

If you just want to let your customers see the report output, try exporting to Word, Excel or PDF/Acrobat.
