Hi

Can someone help me understand what is required to compile Red Hat's enterprise sourse code
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/. I want to become certified but don't have the money for the software

Thanks

Uh, well, you don't really need to compile source code to get a RedHat Enterprise-grade experience.

Take a look at the CentOS distribution which is based almost entirely upon the guts of the RedHat enterprise line of products.

Thanks Thedaver

I'll look at the info and install the software. Just for grins how would I go about using the source code from the Red Hat FTP site? Just wanted to know if I run out of things to do on a weekend. I think it would make me a better technical person

Hey Thedaver

I want to become a Red Hat / UNIX consultant. Can you give me some pointers because I have a Sun Microsystems Ultra 60 workstation running Solaris 10 and a PC running Solaris 9. Also I have a PC running Red Hat Fedora 2. Besides certification what else can I do. Been a teacher teaching Red Hat and worked at GXS, for about six months. I would like to start my own business

Thanks

LaHawk

You need to be more specific in what you want. RedHat's install process does not contemplate that you are compiling anything. Neither does their package management.

If you really want to get your jollies on compiling a linux system, you need to spend some time with:

In my humble estimation, such an undertaking is a waste of your time unless you have a specific purpose in pursuing it.

For advice on becoming a professional consultant, I would prefer we take that matter off-list. You may contact me through my website.

Dave.
