Compile error with GCC

I have a new solaris 9 machine. When I try and install software I get the error "C compiler cannot creat executables". I look at the log and it can't find cc1. I see that it is in a lib/gcc-lib directory. I am trying to install gcc to try and get this directory full of lib stuff but the compile fails cause it can't find cc1. When I try and install binutils I get the same message.

How do I get this lib directory?
