Compellent Scv safe mode

Hi Would anyone be able to advise the procedure to invoke safe mode on an Scv2020 controller via serial connection. I have tried pressing enter several times and removing and reseating battery but controller keeps looping indicating disks are missing.
Purchased used without disks and loks like systwm was not cleared to fac. defaults.
