Hi

I am wondering about moving from version 8.5 to 11 - are the reports compatible or would I have to re-write them all?

Also, a product I use has embedded RDC in it to run and view reports without having Crystal loaded on that computer. I'm assuming that any future reports built in 11 would not be able to be run/viewed on these same computers?

How different is 11 and 2008 and is there anything in between? Thanks very much.

We have converted reports from 8.5 with the only issue being with data connections (using FoxPro).

We are not quite to 2008 (hope to be soon). Have seen some of the new features, I like what I have seen so far.

Hi

Thanks very much!! Can you share what some of the differences between 8.5 and 11 are?

I'm asking this question in terms of the data presentation etc. because though I can appreciate there may be better ease of use (like cascading parameters) for the person creating the report I don't have time to be learning new software just yet and there is pressure to upgrades. If there won't be much difference in available reporting types then the end data stakeholder won't know it's a new version anyway!

What are some of the 2008 features you're excited about? Thanks.

Not sure if this is what your after but each time a new version comes out I write up what is new in that version for my newsletter. Links to the last 4 (9, 10, XI, 2008) are on the front page of my site - just above the second horizontal line.

I began with 8.5, went from that to 10 and now 11.5. Almost everything will still work, but complex linkages may occasionally be interpreted differently. You'll also find that anything saved from a higher version will no longer work in 8.5, mostly because it moves to Unicode in higher versions. So save copies of the old version before doing anything else.

Going from 10 to 11.5, I was irritated to find that parameters no longer used the first default value without being specifically told to do this. I don't recall if default parameters were even possible in 8.5 but if so it is a point to watch for.

If you have SQL and have been using SQL commands the methods have changed. Your best move would be to paste in the SQL using the new methods. You'll find that you can use this with other tables, one of many improvements.
