I'm a current TSM user and I'm looking to replace this backup software. I've heard lots of good things about CommVault so I was happy to find this forum by people who are actually using CommVault. What backup software do most people recommend? One of my main issues is the ability to perform bare metal restores. I am also looking for a paper comparing CommVault to NetBackup. Can anyone help? thx

Hi

Contact CommVault for a NBU v CV doc, their marketing guys should have something for you.

I've used NBU,TSM and Legato Networker and I can honestly say that I'd choose CV over all of them anytime.

The simplicity of CV compared to the others (ie. no CLI to learn or scripting to create) and the ability to run all the different aspects of data protection/management from 1 console is excellent.

For BMR look into 1-Touch.

We had Tivoli here and replaced it with Commvault. We have never looked back as Commvault is a superior product in every regards I can think of.

NBU guys will say it is great because they are scripting UNIX guy who love command line.

CV has better reporting that is easier for upper management to decipher.

you have to be a pivot table genius to get decent reporting out of NBU.

Back in the 4.2 days CV did not play well in the UNIX pool...But now it is doing a lot better.

I vote CV :)
My management votes NBU for unix and CV for windows/exchange

I bet they wont be voting NBU with the latest release from Symantec....very buggy apparantely ;-)

I too used to be a Solaris guy when using NBU and loved the product back then because as you say Unix guys love to script...but, now I like an easy life and CV certainly provides that lol
