I have noticed that when windows XP pro starts up it takes around 20 to 30 seconds for networking to start up. My other machine starts up normally. I have nortons antivirus running, but is I disable it, it has no effect. I am wondering if this is a charateristic of Compaq w8000 machine or some setting that I overlooked. My networking services are on automatic.

compaq workstation, networking is slow coming up at start up.

It may be trying to reread all last connections as well as indexing.
Click the + before My Network Places.
Right-click all links one by one (not Entire Network) and selct delete.
When they are gone, reboot and see if it speeds up.
