Compaq SmartStart doesn't recognize array?

We just received two new 370 servers, with dual CPU's, 1.5G RAM, 6-38.4G Hd's, and AIT tape drive. When booting off the SmartStart CD the ACU can't find the array. We installed the Hot Swap bay below the CD, per the diagrams for the AIT drive, but that's it. Any thoughts?

odd that it's same on two

remove panel and check that scsi hasnt been pulled from back when dlt added

the ait i'm assuming is going to scsi a or b on board and the cage is going to the array controller

Terry,

Although the AIT is connected to the other SCSI port, we are going to pull the AIT connection off and try again.

I also have a ML370 box that has been running well. I had to erase it and rebuild for a test server but SmartStart Array config utility hangs when it tries to detect it. I am using a SMART 5200 Controller, not the onboard.

Any ideas folks?

Thanks

New 370's would normally be configured through the RBSU not Smartstart, no?

It is a 1st generation ML370 which was shipped with SMARTSTART. Does this help?

Thanks

maciagt, by chance are the drive cages connected to the array card or are they still connected to the on-board SCSI card.

Nothing has changed, they have always been attached to the Array. I will mention what I think to be a point of interest, we had recently rebuilt this box apparently and accidentally put drives from another server in. They looked like the same drives but after carefull inspection they were slightly different models. After the server was powered on we realized the issue and put the original drives back in. Could this have corrupted something in the BIOS or Array card?

This will probably have overwritten the RAID memory with the details of the newer drives.
However putting the older drives back in should have re-overwritten the 5200 with the correct details.
Although not if you changed the drive order.

However, if memory serves you do have to go into the Bios setup on a 1st gen. 370 and tell it to use the RAID 5200 rather than the RoC controller to boot. Don't think SmartStart can set it on the G1 servers like it did with the older ProLiants.
