I have a Proliant 1600 and an ML350 Compaq server, the Proliant being older & slower as well as the main server at our company. The ML350 was purchased to run our accounting software, which was recently replaced with a much smaller package that does not need the performance requirements of its predecessor. I would like to make the ML350 the main server by swapping the SCSI drives between the servers. The Proliant OS is Netware 4.10 & the ML350 OS is Netware 4.2.

Apart from matching the disk & SCSI controller drivers, can you think of any issues, problems, or reasons to not make the swap?

You may find that the old drives only run at 7200 RPM whereas new drives actually run at 10,000 RPM. You would probably have to move the SCSI card from the old to new as well.

Kind of defeats the object of what you are trying to achieve as the drives will still be the same speed and so will the old SCSI card if you move that as well. Yeah, I know the processor is faster but would you really put a lawn mower engine into a Ferrari? -----------------------------------------------------

You need not move the controller as all Smart Array Controllers use compatible RAID sets. As long as the 1600 uses the ULtra2/3 drives (black) then just move em on over.
