Hi all, I have a compaq server that I am working on. Sorry, I dont have the model. It has a smart array 5xx disc array (standard with the computer).

One of the drives is bad and I can not load a new install of windows.

Its set up as a raid 5 logical drive.

Is there a way I can disable that to do the new install, then grow the filesystem when I get the replacement drive?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

it will depend on the model of the machine and the exact model of the array controller. if it was setup as a single raid 5 logical drive then it shouldn't matter if one of the drives is bad (just that the redundancy is gone and you need to replace it asap). this should not matter to the windows install.

Hey there, thanks for the reply.

You are of course correct. I just found that out. My problem was in the bios I guess, the array was no longer selected for boot. So after I use the compaq smart start and blew it all away, then I got in to the bios and made that array bootable, it workss.

The drive is still bad but I got things running.

Thanks for your reply!

Rob
