I have a new 1600R server, test installed NT4 ok, test installed W2k server ok. When installing on site as comms server with W2k server (terminal server) I keep getting unplugged from network error, this goes out immiediatly or if load on ie pinging does not occur. Further problem is server locking up requiring restart. I did not use smart start but used W2k and all native drivers.

Compaq Proliant NIC Unplugged error with W2k server

Use Compaq(HP) SmartStart to update the drivers
OR
Download the drivers for the hardware;
If you are still seeing the symptoms ensure that AUTO settings are'nt used on the Ethernet Switches OR the NIC's
Eg fix the cards to 100/FULL likewise with the switch
also ensure that the switch ports are configured for "spanningtree portfast"
