Our old compaq server has been updated. I am wanting to use the old server (compaq proliant 400) as a normal office computer. I have formated the HD and installed windows 98 onto it.

The problem is that when the compter restarts after loading win98 files, I get an error message saying...

"Windows 98 protection error - restart your machine"

I dont even get to put in a serial or detect plug n play etc.. After restarting, it does the same thing.

The win98 disk is an original. Has anyone had this problem or know of a solution? Thanks

are you running any RAID? if your running 98 from SCSI drives then there may be a configuration problem in your BIOS.
