I have a customer who has recently had a drive failure. The normal procedure is just to remove the faulty drive and replace with a new one.
This was completed but for some reason the LED on the disk remains yellow and the array does not start the automatic rebuild.
The Array management software see's the drive as being failed.
If the drive is moved into another bay it can be viewed but is not added to the array. I assume that for the array to rebuild a drive has to be placed in the original bay?
I am now thinking a faulty backplane could be the cause?
Anyone any ideas? Your help will be much appreciated.

Could it be a faulty replacement drive ? Yes the odds are high but worth a shot before playing with backplanes.
