I am having trouble setting up a new network card in my 1200. It is an isa card and i have used the compaq smartstart cd to setup a slot for it. It is a Kingston nic, and from experience i know that these cards work fine with the novell ne2000 driver. this driver is part of the .cfg driver list on the server. But when i insert the card and reboot, the boot fails saying non-system disk error. as soon as i take the card out the system boots ok.

I would have thought that there must be a way of installing cards and using the drivers that come with them ( although they may not be in .cfg format )

Can anyone help

Thnx

redeyes did you try running the EISA configuration utility instead of Smartstart in order to add the card's cfg file. I had to do this for a SCSI card that I needed to install. Also from where did you get the cfg file? You may need to create it manually (ie provide IRQ/DMA info etc).

No itsp1965, i dont think so, i have tried installing the nic by booting from smartstart and using the add remove cards utility, but i am not sure if we are talking about the same thing.

The cfg file i am trying to use is one that is in the list cfg files available. How ever how would i create one if i had a floppy disk with driver on it?

redeyes, I recall when I had to install on Adaptec card on Proliant 1500, I had to go into the system configuration. In the option to add a card, you needed to manually define the card (with all its settings) since the config looks for Compaq created cfg files (ie configs for their cards). This is not an issue for PCI cards only ISA/EISA cards.
