Hi all

Maybe this problem has been discussed before. However instead of searching the forums I decided to put down my problem right away, cause my laptop pc (compaq presario 2100) is sure acting strange.

It began with having difficulties copy pasting. Everytime a screendump was pasted instead of the copied or cut contents. The computer automatically filled its clipboard with screendumps in no time. Also other things might occur like: Automatically turning down the volume in media player, and disturbing working in excel because cell values are immediately calculated (before pressing enter). One other major annoyance is the automatic-like-a-crazy-horse-sending-and-recieving when starting outlook. Over 200 send receive actions in no time. Hit cancel and it starts all over in a blink of the eye.

It seems like the computer is going crazy. The processor is working 100%, can't be stopped and carries out unwanted activities. The taskmanager shows a 100% cpu for the explorer. Sometimes the problem is gone for a while but it can return anytime.

After a while i found out i could stop these unwanted actions by hitting the prt screen key a number of times. this solution stopped working and (no joke) i had to start hitting the pause break key to make the problem go away. Currently both keys won't help anymore and so i'am stuck.

It might seem like a virus, but it has been goin on for a couple of months now and the big virus companies aren't reporting about anything like this. I also run xp sp 2 (reinstalled several times) and fully updated norton antivirus and lavasoft ad-aware. I tried a number of other anti spam programs as well. You'll understand it is hard having a good time working on the pc under these circumstances...

thanks for replying.

John

How does it behave in Safe Mode?

How does it behave under a different user profile?

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

Have you only re-installed SP2 or was it the full Windows re-install?

Re-installing Windows is never going to fix corruption in your registry or other settings as it just saves them for you into the new repair install settings.

It is probably a good idea to look at getting a second opinion by trying some of the online virus scans in this FAQ.
