Hi
I have a compaq presario that reboots for no reason. I have changed the ram and done a new reinstall of xp. I have intalled a new cpu fan also. It seems to go through a proper shut down as it shows no error at start up and this would lead me to belive that it is not the power supply.
Any body got any ideas as this is starting to realy bug me.

First, change its behavior on a critical error. Right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Error and Recovery, and uncheck "Automaticly Restart", and make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked.

Second, check your current Event Logs for error messages from the time it rebooted. Right-click My Computer, Manage, Event Viewer, and look at the log files. This should give you a detailed idea of the cause of the problem. You can then Google the error code for suggestions, or report the errors here.

Thanks have tried that with no luck, she still keeps turning herself off.

no event log file entry regarding this problem. the pc has not rebooted for 3 weeks but now has started doing it again. it appears to happen most often when using the internet. anybody any ideas....

If there's nothing in event viewer and you followed bcastner's advise about disabling automatic reboot and it still reboots without warning, I would try replacing the power supply.
