Hi everyone,

I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop, the problem is that my ac adapter keeps burning inside the jack, it happened once so i replaced the power jack, bought a new ac adapter, all seemed fine for a couple of weeks.

Now it's done it again, melted my new ac adapter. I've purchased another ac adapter which im waiting to arrive & i've also bought a cooling pad, i'm hoping this will keep the laptop cool.

The laptop does get very hot on the bottom, is it because the whole laptops hot that the ac adapter melts in the jack socket or do you think it's an actual problem with the power somehow even though i replaced the jack and got the same result.

I'm going to install a new jack if the current one doesn't work with my new adapter and i'm hoping this cooling pad is going to help a lot, if it burns again then that's it.

Has anyone got any idea's why its doing this?

Thanks.

well the laptops currently at a friends at the moment, so can't check but once i get it back i'll check, the battery never holds charge anyway, lucky if i get 20 minutes out of it so if it turned out to be faulty then it wouldn't make much difference to me.

If it turned out to be faulty then it might explain the overheating issue which is what you were asking about in your original post.

Also, if its on the recall list you'll get a new battery at no charge. That new battery might hold a charge better.

Cheers.

this laptops quite a few years old and it never used to overheat, so if the battery was faulty when bought then im sure it would of overheated then and it isn't under warranty anymore.
