I am trying to run FDISK and FORMAT on a Compaq which had been used as a Corporate Slave ( Win95 file system very messed up, must clean out and reload ). I have the necessary Compaq Diskettes. I have encountered something I have never seen before during an FDISK/FORMAT. When I select and then ENTER the # of the Primary DOS Partition I wish to Delete, it calls for the Volume Label to be entered next. The Volume Label is listed as: " Al" ( lowercase "L" ). The system does not PERMIT me to enter ANY lowercase letters, so I get the message:
"Volume Label does not match", so I can go no further.
Does anyone know how I can get around such a thing???

I've seen it before. What you need is to get a utility that lets you do a format without worrying aout the existing disk format.

I don't know of any off the top of my head, but you can do a search and find them fairly easy on download.com.

Just wanted to share the quick and simple little trick someone showed me to solve this problem:
Just simply RENAME the Drive ( which contains the offending Partition name ), Reboot and try again. You can access it now, no problem!
