Compaq DVD-ROM SD-C2402

I have a Compaq Armada e500 with a compaq/toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2402 drive in it. A week ago it was playing DVD's fine. Now I can just hear the drive spinning and nothing happens. I can listen to audio or use data disks. When I put in a DVD it asks me if I want to format the disk! Any suggestion on if this is software or hardware related.

Hi,

How many times have you changed the region setting on the drive? Just wondered if you did more than the 5 changes normally permitted.
If you use 2K or XP, you can find this out from the drive properties in Device manager, not so sure about other operating systems.

I have the same problem with my toshiba-dvd.
but now ,I solve it.



You can downloads atapi.exe form
"

http://sdd.toshiba.com/cda/localcache/820000000bf7000004470000000100000000.exe"

and run it.then,your dvd driver may recognize
the disk.
