Compaq Armada E500, DVD CD-ROM, Compaq part # 168003-336, model DRN-8080B. Multi-bay, hot swap capable. F/W 1.14
For some reason, I can't open the door except with the pin hole. If I put a disk in, DVD or Data, it spins up to speed but never reads the disk. The computer locks up. Nothing works, even CTRL,ALT,DEL. Only way to "unlock" the computer is to use the pin hole and remove the disk. I was told the drive is bad. Don't know for a fact.(is it?) I went looking around different sites and found several pt.# 168003-336 but, some, most, were DRD-8120. At least thats the best I could figure trying to see the model number in tiny pictures. What, if any, are the differences between the DRN-8080B and this model. Which is better. I use it mainly as a CD-ROM, but occasionally do watch DVDs. Currently I have Intervideo's WINDVD version...LOL... 1.4.4. Will upgrade it once I get a working drive. Any warnings or precautions regarding upgrading to WINDVD 6?
Please keep in mind I'm still at NOVICE level.
Thanks for any help.
