Any help on this matter is gratefully appreciated...

Im having a few different problems with a server tape drive. The drive is cleaned regularly and the media set is a pack of new tapes.
Three different backup jobs run per day, the first is Overwrite, the following two append to data.
The final job has failed everytime this week!! with messages like: Critical Error, turn the device off and on again......or all of the led's on the right side of the drive start to flash, and the tape will not eject, or be written to...!

If anybody has experienced similar problems to this, or has any possible solutions I would be glad to hear from them.
Thanks
James Bradie

Have you tried stopping backup services, power-cycling the drive, and restarting backup services?

Does the backup fail consistently during any particular backup set or while connecting to any particular server?

Thanks for the help Zoh-Eee!
I tried that already to no avail, and it is always at a different point that the backup fails....
but don't worry about me beacause we've just had the drive replaced with a newer model.
fingers crossed!

That could do the trick! Post back here if your problem gets solved, for future reference for others.

had one of those happen to me.... drive got all funky, wouldn't eject the tape... etc... had to replace the drive. Another thing to ensure is that the drivers you are using on your controller card (assuming it's a scsi tape device) is that you have good drivers.
