Hello folks, please help! I've a Compaq EN Deskpro which apparently supports up to a P3 500 (It previously ran a P2 350 happily). I installed a used but working P3 500, setting the jumpers accordingly etc, and the screen came on, prompting F10 for the Startup, however, when I pressed it, it kept going to the `Insert boot disk' prompt. I decided (foolishly?) to reset the CMOS, by following the jumper settings as specified(the power was off at the time), and since then there is no activity when I switch on. The fan comes on, the motherboard LED comes on, but there is no picture. My fear is that the CPU has overheated as I had a P2 fan fitted on it, but has anyone any ideas to help me out(I have no other CPUs to try on it - the P2 350 was sold). I also disconnected the battery and reinstalled, but to no avail. I've also tried two different graphics cards. Any advice would be really appreciated.
Maybe when you where resetting the bios, you loosened a few cables accidently, or moved the video card. Try pushing in on the video card (gently) to see if it moves, also make sure the cables are all snug. Does it make any sounds from the internal speaker?

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

Thanks for response, but sadly I've tried these things.

Are you sure there are no CPU settings in the BIOS? Maybe resetting changed a setting required by the CPU.
Al
atc-computing@home.com

also having the same problem on this only all i get is 3 beeb 1 short and 2 long I think its the graphics card but im not to sure

Gammon, When you put the 500 on did you install a cpu fan as well?

Double check the jumpers and make sure you are set to 66mhz
x 7.5

Also make sure the drive cables are attached to the mobo and drives. Note the pin orientation as the colored edge of
the cable denotes pin #1.

Make sure the power plugs are connected to the drives.

Make sure the cmos "clear" jumper is back to its original position.

Make sure the cpu has a fan on it and it is plugged in.
