Hi all,
I hope someone can give me good advice.
I planning to buy Compaq ML350 Tower Server with:
PIII 2P 1400 512k 133Mhz FSB
2 x 512MB DiMM Kit
5 x 18.2 GB Ultra3 scsi
Smart Array 532 Raid Controller (2 x Ultra3)
20/40 GB DLT Driver Internal
and I want to put 2 NC 3123 PCI 10/100 WOL UTP Controller for Timing.
So my question is:
What is Timing ( I heard is something to merge 2 network card so communication between users and server is mach faster )
For now this server is just gone be like File server but in future maybe I gone use him for Web (just for company site,) and SQL or Oracle server. So is OK to buy like dual processor or single processor? and can I run all this (File,Web SQL,Oracle) on this single server with dual Processor?
Number of user for now in LAN is 45 and in future (2-3 year )another 30 – 40.
So please advice what solution is best.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Fule,

Timing - I think you mean teaming. This is a way of 'joining' the network cards together to get increased bandwidth and/or reliability. You can run them in teaming or failover mode. i.e. Linked or with one taking over if the other fails.

Rule of thumb is that if you have the money then buy CPU's etc. at the time. You never know when Compaq is going to make something a spare part which usually more than doubles the cost.
There are some places that do them quite cheaply later on but you can't guarantee it.

One item I don't see on there that should be if the ML530 takes it is a spare hot-pluggable PSU. Highly recommended if you can afford it.

Hi Ntinlin, thanks for replay, yes in conf i have
hot-pluggable PSU.But what about performans , can server with dual procesor (1400 MHz)be Web server,SQL server and File server in same time?
Thanks Fule

This will depend on what OS you put on it.
*nix should work just fine on one cpu.
Oracle will put a real strain on it (no matter what os) so I would suggest you put it on a separate system.
