Hi folks,
I'm having a problem with a Compaq Armada 1750 laptop. Every now and again the screen just goes completely white and I have to reboot to reset it.
Any ideas.

Cheers

I used to have one like that as well...

Did it just happen randomly, did you try to change the drivers, or did you download drivers from MS Update recently?
A screen going blue or black, OK, but white is a new colour :) That's why my first guess would be driver-related...

Does it happen while you're working or does it happen when your computer idled? In the case of the latter, I would think in direction of Energy Saving Features.

The trick is to find out whether it is a monitor or a videocard/driver issue. In any case, video problems on a laptop can be a real pain in the - erm, before I get censored again - back.

Peace,

Yellow

Thanks Mate,
I've posted on another site and happened to bump into (of all people) an ex-compaq engineer. He says that this is an inherent problem in the Armada range from the 1500 series through to the 1750. Apparently there is a problem with the daughter-board which plugs into motherboard a bit like a riser card. Anyway he says that the whole range of Armadas had been sold before this became an issue and Compaq had a general recall of the whole 1750 range a couple of years ago. I just need to dig up another faulty old armada and half-inch the board from it (obviously one that is not displaying the same problem). Anyway mate thanks for your suggestions. By the way, the engineer says that if I hold down the button which switches the lcd screen off when you close the lid, the display sometimes resets itself.
