compaq 5000 boot

I have several compaq 5000 series computers here and each one of them will not boot to a floppy disk. I have looked in CMOS to make sure that the A:\ was a listed device to boot from and it was, yet without fail the floppy will spin and then stop when trying to boot.
The reason this is a bummer is that I am trying to image these machines. This diskette is bootable, as I have tested it on other machines.

Any suggestions?

A faulty batch of A Drives?!
I sure have come across that before.
