I've recently installed a replacement Compaq 35/70 DLT into a Compaq Proliant 6000 server after the previous 35/70 DLT broke.
The server sees the device and is able to back up data using scheduled tasks, however I am having issues setting the Compression on the DLT. The default density on the tapes is 35.0, and this is the default shown on the DLT when you install a tape. However the compress option isn't set by default and you need to use the density override to set this option.
Once you remove any tape and then place it back in the DLT, the density sets itself to 35.0 however the compress bit isn't set.
The tapes were origianlly written at 35.0 density with compression set and Hardware compression is set through the backup software
Could you advise me on any issues regarding setting compression using this DLT or how I am able to set compression as a default setting for the tapes. The tapes registered compression fine as a default on the previous DLT and the only thing that has changed since then is the DLT itself - though it is an identical model..
Thanks.
