I was linking users Word 2003 to our companyweb site thru My Network Places and some how I lost my internal companyweb site. I now get a “Page cannot be found” error message. A user said that they may have deleted something from My Network Places on his workstation.

I am able to open MY Network Places and see the General Documents folder on companyweb and add a doc to it.
I can open IE and view document library, I am also able to go thru Word on my web site link and view document library.

I looked on the Server under IIS => Server Name => Web Sites => Default Web Site => companyweb and it reads “there are no items to show in this view”
I checked the path: C:\inetpub\ and the folder is empty.

I populated this folder with folder under IIS => Server Name => Web Sites => companyweb duplicate folder contents and path to virtual directory.

Still getting error message,I am not sure how to get back companyweb!!!

If I open IE and type I get the create a page site.

Any Help

Are you looking for the SharePoint files? They are not stored in the Inetpub folder. All files under the layouts are stored in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\

Globalstrata thanks for responding to my issue. I am looking for Companyweb aka default name for Sharepoint on a Win 2003 Small business server. Unfortunately for me I don’t have a good backup of the SQL to restore the files.

I went to IIS => Server Name => Web Sites => companyweb highlighted it, went to Action => New => Virtual Directory and remapped the path with the wizard to.

_layouts = c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\template\layouts
_vti_bin = c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\isapi
_wpresourcea = c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\wpresources

NOW I get nothing. Well if I open IE and type I get the create a page site.

NOW when I try to open My Company Internal Web Site from a workstation I get the “The page cannot be displayed” error message.

When I try to open My Company Internal Web Site from the Server I get a <File Download> popup box.
“Some files can harm your computer, if the file information below looks suspicions or you do not fully trust the source, do not open or save this file”

File name: companyweb
File type:
From: companyweb

Unknown file type can't open, don't know where to save file. I am not sure what to do next new to Sharepoint.

Any Help
Thanks

I am familiar with SBS and the Companyweb. Even thought you say that you do not have SQL Backups, do you mean tape backups of SQL Database File dumps? If you mean tape backups, what I would do is look if by any chance you had Database Maintenance Setup in your SQL Server. Depending on the SBS version, it may have included SQL. If your version does not have SQL, then MSDE would not have a maintence SQL so you would be S.O.L.

Another thing that you may want to try is to install a Sharepoint Recycle Bin. Microsoft has a document how to make one ( But if you are not confortable with this, then you would have to get a commercial one such as:

Other than that, nothing else comes to my mind. However if you get it working, you should consider implementing a recycle bin.

Sorry I could not be of more help,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my issue. I was able to resolve the problem and the Companyweb is working again. I am providing a summary of the key points of my issue with Companyweb, FYI.

Issue: Companyweb not working
Cause: mspclnt not able to uninstall the prior ISA clients
Resolution:
The companyweb was not opening up and gave a dialog box to open "the files can harm your system click open or save"
After opening it then it would give open with dialog box--when opened with the browser it did nothing just sat their In the IIS manager. The companyweb components were scattered throughout, I followed Microsoft article 829114 and removed companyweb.
Restarted the server Companyweb again failed with now and HTTP 403 forbidden. I checked again and found some components are still lingering in the IIS removed them
and followed 829114 again ERROR..............An error occurred while creating groups. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and manually create a test group to verify that Active Directory is running. Rerun Setup.

>>Applied the Hotfix 832880
>>Companyweb resolved then
>>Issue resolved

Again thank you for responding your time and input in this matter.

Pat Kemp
