I am a Remote Access Support Analyst for a large company located within the Puget Sound Area. We are currently using/support the company's licensed Nortel IPSec version 4.6. We are encountering many problems and do not seem to get any help from our Nortel Product Managers or Nortel Networks themselves. Maybe someone here can help.

We are encountering the error "Checking for Banner Text (((Company IPSec Server)))... The Secure Connectivity VPN Connection Has Been Lost.."

The only support (using the term loosely) that we are receiving with regards to this error message is that the UDP Port 500 and ESP 50 are not opened. But this is in fact not always the case (many users' ISP are AT&T, MSN, Charter or other companys using T1 Lines that have all ports open) and since there is no real support from our Product Managers or Nortel we leave many of our company-base SOL.

Any information or ideas would be most helpful. Thank You in Advance!!

The error is generally caused by another VPN client, adapter, or firewall software on the client machine.
For Windows 2000 make sure that the IPSec Policy Agent is set to Client [respond only].
Disable Internet Connection Sharing.
Re-apply and Service Packs (6a for NT and SP2 for win 2K)
Sometimes I have fixed this with a reinstall of the Extranet Client but most often it is one of the things above on the client machine.
