compacting messages

windows XP sp2 outlook express 6.0029.....

Once every 100 times outlook express is opened there is a automatic compaction process which starts compacting outlook express folders

1) It crashes the system every time and i had to restart the system but many of my messages are gone !!

2) How to prevent windows xp from starting this compacting procedure at all ??

any ideas ?

try this:
1. Click Options on the Outlook Express Tools menu.
2. Click the Maintenance tab.
3. Clear the checkbox for "Compact messages automatically in the background".
4. Click OK.

If it only compacts every 100 times, guess you have XP with SP2? It should compact when you close OE and not when you open it. They changed it that way cause it was causing so much trouble.

yes and once the compaction starts the system hangs

so is there anyway to disable this compaction ! it is causing more harm than good !

your right. I forgot that with installing SP2 the button is removed as "MS solved the problem by doing it" Pahh!
