Compacting fields in a report

I have a report that has 10 fields in each section. I also have code that will not show the details of a field if it has no value but would like to compact the other fields together instead of having blank spaces. I know it can be done but I do not know how.

Are the controls stacked vertically? If so, you can use the Trim function. The control source would be something like this:

=Trim([YourFieldName])

Yes the fields are stacked vertically. I have tried the trim function but I get an error on that control when I preview the report.
