Compacting DB while running code

Is it possible to compress a database without compacting it, all while a process within the database is running?

I have a database application that processes data from other db's and it gets bigger and bigger. I have to manually compact and compress it?

Anyone ever compressed it without compacting it before.

You can also set the CompactOnClose in Access 2000 and later from the Tools --> Options toolbar

Compacting is what you want to do - but their are limitations on when you can do it.
