Hello Tek-tips members :)

I am new to norstar systems.
We have a compact ICS installed that is accepting incoming calls from the main line but when a second call is made to the main line the call gets redirected to the fax line instead of ringing on the other stations. The first call rings on all stations just fine but subsequent calls aren't picked up by the other available phones.

What could be causing this? I've read the manuals and I'm stumped.

You sure its the fax or a modem tone such as the IRAD....which you would need to program not to answer.

How do I program it not to do that? I'm not sure but the fax is the only line that picks up when a second call is coming in.

Ok seems your sure its the "fax line" but is it the fax line answering? stand beside it and test, see if you hear it answer in person or action on the display and another test would be to unplug the fax.
You need to find out how the fax is hooked up, i.e. from Demarc to jack or is it on the KSU using an ATA? or an ATX (line share).

IRAD (Internal Remote Access Device)
Try system heading programming/remoteaccess

Sounds like the telco might have the main number and the fax line in hunt too.

Yes, I would say the FAX line is in the hunt group. Simply take the FAX off hook and call in with line 1 busy as well. That would conform it.

if so its possible that there is an ATX (line share device) which senses fax tones so sends it to the fax instead of the phone system and it has failed.
Or the fax is picking up right away when it used to pick up at X amount of rings.
