Hello Guys,

I'm looking to build myself a new box and i'm at a bit of a loose end as to which distriubtion version i should use, so i'm looking for a little advice.

I'm looking for somthing compact that will run off of a Flash card that i will be seating in the IDE slot.

As for functionality I don't really need it to do much, i'm not even after a GUI as i make a habbit of doing all my work from a terminal connection.

I'll be looking to intergrate the BlueZ stack for syncing with my mobile phone.

I'm new to linux so this is all a learning curve for me, what can you guys suggest?

I've head good things about Damn Small Linux but i notice it has a GUI which isn't somthing i really want to be getting involved with.

Thanks,

Rob

How about DSL (Damn Small Linux)?

Cheers

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.

If you're up for a bit of a challenge I have heard of LinuxFromScratch( ) being as small as 5 meg! I have gone through the regular build process (which is quite compact itself depending on the tools you needed) and found it quite easy and educational!

Slax Frodo edition is 52MB & the bluez module adds less than a 1/2 MB more.

Lol, thanks guys, I did see that linux from scratch thing a couple of days ago and got myself all excited, but i think that'll be somthing for in a few months time.

As for now i'm quite happy working with Damn Small Linux, 50Mb is quite adequite.

Now, a small issue I have got is formatting my flash card and creating new partitions on it for the fresh 'Frugal' install of DSL.

Can anyone offer advice on the best way to achieve this in fdisk? I've looked at what little documentation is around and its not been a great help.

Thanks,

Rob
