My macro is creating an export file for another application. In order for export records to be in sorted order, I have to COMPACT DATABASE first. Works great using menu's - but doesn't work within macro (runcommand - compactdatabase). Any ideas? (I'm on ACCESS 97).

Compact database within macro - doesn't work

I fear that you will not arrive very far if you only use macros (see ACCESS ONLINE ENCYCLOPEDIA at articles about macros).
But IMHO there is no relation between exporting data and compacting the database.
You can create any sort order in using queries before the data export.
