I have an Access 2000 database that is 20 MB in size with and about 25000 records and 10 tables. It was built 3 years ago.

Now for the first time I added delete options to the front end of my Web application where users can delete records.

Because records will now be deleted does that mean I should Compact and Repair the database more often? If so how many times a month?

I currently do it about once every 6 months. Users usually manipulate/add and now will delete data to this database about 10 times a day.

There isn't really a hard and fast rule on this. My advice would be to compact the db, see how small it gets, then monitor its growth in size over a period of time to see how quickly it bloats.

If you want to take the hassle out of more regular compact/repairs, take a look at scheduling tools. You can experiment with Windows Task Scheduler or look at a bespoke Access admin tool like the Handy Access Launcher (
