My lap top has been running EXTREMELY slow in all programs and start-up. It seemed to start after I loaded my d-link wireless card into it. Would the wireless cause this? What can I do to fix this problem? I have 512mb of RAM which should be more than enough.

You need to post more info on your machine such as operating system etc.

Have you cleared your cache, updated your OS, updated your virus protection, scanned for spyware etc etc etc?

Are you using the most current drivers for the card downloaded from the d-link site.

I have seen this with a friend's laptop. If I take the d-link card out then it starts up much faster. Generally though I see the laptop when she is away from an access point so I do not know if it is just stalling on the search or if it is that slow when she is connecting to the access point. I have advised her to leave the card out if she is not near an access point. (The card is the DWL-650+ and I believe it is one of the later hardware revisions of the card.)

Sorry I could not offer any solution as I have not found one yet. Sometimes it is nice to know you are not the only one.

You can easily at 30-90 seconds at startup for every unused network adapter. The time is spent trying (without success) to obtain a DHCP IP address for each.

Use Device Manger to disable the unused adapter(s).
