I installed a asus crw, and my comp. shows it in device manager with an exclamation mark, says driver corrupted, it also said this for my old lg drive, i replaced the ide cable, it's set to 2nd master in bios, jumper to master, i realized it had stopped even showing a D drive in my comp. a few months ago, i thought the drive was bad, but doing same thing with brand new asus drive. I have dell 4400, 4y/o, with new winxp update in dec. cd drive worked fine after upgrade till few months ago. Please help.

does it work if you set it to slave on the primary ide cable?

Your problem could be solved if you set it to cable select. This would keep all of you ide's component from conflicting.
