I just bought a Compaq laptop today. I'm trying to connect a three year old printer to the laptop...I went ahead and installed the printer's driver, made the printer my default, and when I do a simple test print or printing from notepad - I get an error message saying that the laptop can't communicate with the printer. I make sure the printer is plugged in, the printer cable is in the USB port, I rebooted the laptop, uninstalled then installed the driver again. I even contacted HP though their chat help - I did exactly what they said (which I already did) and nothing seems to help. The printer is a Lexmark Z715...just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks.

Since it is a new laptop then I'm assuming that you have Vista installed. Is that correct?

If so, then have you downloaded and installed the Vista driver for the printer? It can be found here. Be sure to click on the Windows Vista tab in order to get the Vista driver.

Cheers.
