Communicating with the sound card

Hey everyone,

I am little new to assembly but, have a self inflicted project that I am trying to conquer. I need to learn how to control and communicate with the sound card. I want to be able to play MP3's or wav files if at all possible. Is it possible to do such things using hardware interupts? Please help I have searched but have been unsuccessfull in my quest. Let me know what you think.

Have you tried looking for C programs that communicate with the sound card?

You may get pointers to how it's done that way.
