Commits in Progress and ODBC connection

Progress 8.3c;
Merant Data Direct 4.0 ODBC drivers - connect successfully to Access 2000.
However the most recent data returned in queries is from the last time the database was shutdown and not from any recent work.

The config on the ODBC driver is for SQL_TXN_READ_UNCOMMITTED.

is this a problem with the ODBC setup or drivers or is it a problem with the commits on the database
